Capturing Character - Painting People & Pets, Tequesta, FL - March 3-5, 2020
Tuesday - Thursday, March 3-5, 2020
Cost: Member $450 Nonmember $500
Location: Lighthouse Artcenter, Tequesta FL
Learn to paint portraits of people and pets, capturing a likeness as rapidly as possible. This three-day workshop will focus on the accuracy of drawing, values, edges, texture, and color.
Students will learn to paint the portrait alla prima, with dynamic brushwork and texture, achieving not only a likeness, but energetic and engaging paintings. We will paint a new portrait every day, focusing on quick starts and a less is more approach. Learn what factors contribute to a likeness vs. unnecessary details that can contribute to an overworked, lifeless portrait. All levels are welcome, even if you’ve never painted portraits before. Patrick’s simple steps for evaluating your paintings in progress will improve not only your skills as a portrait painter, but your painting abilities in general.
Each day will start with a full demonstration and lecture followed by students painting with frequent one-on-one instruction. We will work from photographs on (day 1 & 2) and a live model (day 3). The day will end with a class critique where Patrick will provide individualized areas of improvement for each student to focus on during the following session.
