Swan Descending, A Staircase | |

This is the grand staircase of the Swan House at the Atlanta History Center. I painted this as a part of the 2020 Olmsted Plein Air Invitational. I was drawn to the scene not only because of the flowing lines of the staircase, but also the dueling sources of cool natural light from the windows and warm interior lights that create interesting contrasts throughout the room. While the staircase dominates the room and the painting, there are so many textures and details that it was a very difficult balance to achieve. |
