Dining at the Swan

Private Collection

During the 2019 Olmsted Plein Air Invitational, I had the opportunity to paint inside the famous Swan House on the grounds of the Atlanta History Center. You may recognize the Swan House from the Hunger Games films. The room was filled with every imaginable ornamentation, and at first glance seemed too overwhelming to paint. It became a great study in editing, painting only what was necessary to express the opulence of the room. This is actually the first chandelier I have ever painted. It's definitely a case of having to forget what you know and only painting what you see.

I was lucky enough to receive the Best Architectural Award, and the painting is now part of the collection of Atlanta's Cherokee Town & Country Club.
